Objectives

  • Character Development: Through an analysis of each member of the Fellowship in The Lord of the Rings, students will understand and cultivate core qualities such as courage, loyalty, wisdom, and creativity.
  • Cultural and Historical Awareness: By visiting historical museums and war memorials, students will learn about the significance of heraldry in medieval European culture and history, as well as its continuation and relevance in modern society.
  • Artistic and Design Skills: Students will learn the fundamental principles and design methods of heraldry, encouraging them to create unique badge designs inspired by nature and culture.
  • Natural Science and Environmental Exploration: Through field studies of New Zealand’s natural landscapes and ecosystems, students will understand principles of optics and color theory, and consider how these elements influence human culture and artistic expression.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this program, participants will:

  • Personal Badge Design: Each student will complete a badge design that represents their character and values, and be able to explain the meaning behind their design.
  • Character Reflection and Enhancement: Through role analysis and practical experiences, students will gain a deeper understanding of the importance of qualities like courage, loyalty, wisdom, and creativity in daily life, and will be able to provide examples of how to apply these qualities in real-life situations.
  • Historical and Cultural Knowledge: Students will have a deeper understanding of the role of heraldry in history and literature, especially in relation to war history, garden design, and optical symbolism.
  • Understanding and Application of Natural Science: Through field studies, students will grasp basic principles of optics and color theory, and be able to apply this scientific knowledge in artistic creation and cultural understanding.
  • Interdisciplinary Skills: By integrating learning from literature, history, art, and natural sciences, students will develop interdisciplinary thinking skills, allowing them to approach problems from multiple perspectives and creatively solve complex issues.
